Start with Markdown, not a screenshot
Use your AI app’s copy option, then check what it copied. Different apps and browsers can provide different clipboard formats. Markdown uses # for headings, | separators for tables and - for lists. A screenshot cannot become editable paragraphs with this converter, and copying a visually formatted answer does not always include Markdown syntax.
- Copy one answer. If the text has no Markdown syntax, ask the assistant to return the same content as Markdown without changing the wording.
- If the entire answer is wrapped in one ```markdown code fence, remove just that outer pair of fences. Keep fences around actual code samples.
- Review facts, links and personal information before exporting. A converter preserves structure; it does not validate an AI answer.
Convert and check the Word file
Open the Markdown to Word tool. Paste the source, choose “Use this text”, then “Convert to Word”. Download DOCX and open it in your editor. You can also upload a local .md or .txt file instead. Processing happens in your browser; the content is not sent to an AI or conversion server.
- In Word’s navigation pane, confirm that the headings are real heading styles.
- Click inside the table and edit a cell. Check long cells and page breaks in your own editor.
- Check ordered-list starts, indentation and the literal [x] / [ ] task markers. These markers are text, not interactive Word checkboxes.
- Save a copy after making any layout changes. Keep the Markdown original.
A real source and its converted DOCX
This original bilingual handoff note includes a table, nested numbering starting at 5, loose task items and code. The downloadable DOCX (10,991 bytes) was generated with this site’s converter on October 26, 2026. Its document XML was checked for a real table, heading styles, task markers and the list start value. Appearance still depends on the editor and installed fonts; download it to inspect the result yourself.

| # Project handoff | A paragraph using the Heading 1 style |
| A pipe-separated table | An editable Word table, not a picture |
| Nested steps starting at 5 | Child steps begin at 5 and continue at 6 |
| - [x] and - [ ] | Visible text markers for done and pending |
| A fenced code block | Monospaced text; no syntax-highlighting guarantee |
What will need manual adjustment?
Images are counted but not embedded in the DOCX; insert them in Word afterward. LaTeX is not converted into native Word equations. Mermaid source remains code rather than becoming a diagram. External HTTP(S) links remain links, but unsupported local link targets may become plain text. Arbitrary HTML styling, an AI chat bubble layout and exact page breaks are not carried over. Lists deeper than four levels are flattened to the deepest supported level.
Fix common copy-and-paste problems
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| The whole answer looks like code | Remove only the outer Markdown fence and convert again. |
| The table appears as ordinary text | Check for a header separator such as | --- | --- | and matching columns. |
| Chinese text looks different on another device | Choose an installed Chinese font in Word, then inspect line wrapping and export. |
| I need a fixed layout to share | Use the PDF tool and inspect its print preview before saving. |
| A table is wider than the page | Adjust column widths or page orientation in Word. Complex merged tables need manual editing. |
